On July 16, 2019, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting call in the 1900 block of Calypso Street. Officers discovered that a 70-year-old Black male, whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification, was involved in an altercation with his roommate Chandria Taylor, a Black female 35-years-old. The altercation escalated to a point the 70-year-old began to choke Taylor placing her in fear for her life. She grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed him multiple times. He was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. Taylor was transported to Dallas Police Headquarters and read her Miranda rights. She waived those rights and agreed to speak with detectives. During the course of the interview, she admitted to stabbing her roommate as he choked her to the point her breath was impeded. Physical evidence obtained by detectives support Taylor’s claim of being assaulted and choked.
