LGBTQ+ Self-Defense Training

This Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Juanita Craft Recreation Center (4500 Spring Ave) we are hosting a LGBTQ+ Self-Defense training class in partnership with Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense. After several assaults that happened within the LGBTQ+ community earlier this year, our LGBTQ+ Liaison Senior Corporal Amber Roman received numerous requests for our department to offer a self-defense training opportunity for those within the LGBTQ+ community.

Although the Dallas Police Department does not hold its own self-defense classes, Senior Corporal Roman worked with Nick Chamberlain in planning this upcoming community engagement event. This inclusive self-defense class is being held to provide those within the LGBTQ+ community an opportunity to learn physical and mental self-defense techniques to increase their own personal safety.

We will have several vendors in attendance to provide information to participants, including: Chamberlain Studios, Resource Center, Silver Pride Project, Dallas Southern Pride, Abounding Prosperity, Inc., Dallas Police Recruiting Unit, and the Office of Community Affairs. Through our partnership with the new Neighbors by Ring Neighborhood Watch App, we will also be raffling two free Ring Doorbell Camera systems at the end of the training class.

This class is free and open to the public. Space is limited and registration ends on Friday, July 26, 2019 – https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lgbtq-self-defense-training-tickets-64306582720

Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense regularly offers community based self-defense classes, you can review their website for future training opportunities: http://www.dallaskenpo.com/
