Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Ladarrion Kelly, a 17-year-old Black male was involved in the death of victim Whitfield. On October 9, 2019, Kelly was interviewed at Dallas Police Headquarters and placed in jail for capital murder. His bond will be determined by a magistrate.

On August 15, 2019, at 1:30 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at 3600 Utah Ave. Upon arrival, they located the victim, Christopher Whitfield, a 21-year-old black male, in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported by Dallas Fire and Rescue to local area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
