On October 8, 2019, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Dallas officers responded to a shooting call Involving a security officer at a business located in the 3100 block of Knox Street. When officers arrived, they met with the security officer, who is a retired Dallas Police Officer, and witness who stated that a suspect entered the rear of the business armed with an assault rifle and wearing body armor In an attempt to commit a robbery. The suspect, described as an adult Black male, attempted to disarm the security officer but was unsuccessful. The security officer was able to pull his weapon and fired multiple times striking the suspect. The suspect ran for a short distance and collapsed in the rear alley. The responding officers administered aid to the suspect prior to his transport to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

Because this incident involves a security officer, the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is conducting the investigation. This incident will be documented on case number 204839-2019.
