Update: November 11, 2019

The Dallas County Medical Examiner positively identified the victim of the murder at 6011 Old Ox Road as Mikel Phillips, a 15-year-old black male.

On November 9, 2019, at approximately 7:00 a.m., a passerby called 911 to report that a young male was lying in the paved area of the schoolyard at 6011 Old Ox Road, the R L Thornton Elementary School. Dallas Police responded and located the young male and Dallas Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The victim appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. Residents in the area reported hearing gunfire at around 8:00 p.m. the night prior. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 15-year-old black male. His identity is not being released at this time, pending confirmation with the Dallas County Medical Examiner.
