The 67th Annual Johnny Sides Dallas Police Rookie of the Year Award Gala was held on Tuesday December 3, 2019 at Café Momentum. This prestigious award ceremony is presented by the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year Award honors the memory of Dallas Police Officer Johnny Sides, #337, who was a member of the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce. Just 21 days after graduating fifth in his Dallas Police Academy class, Officer Sides was fatally wounded when he and his partner confronted a band of criminals wanted for various crimes in four states. Although an officer for too brief a time, Officer Sides has inspired countless police officers and citizens with his dedication, leadership, caring and sacrifice. It is in his memory that The Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce has recognized the Dallas Police Department’s Rookie of the Year since 1952.
Congratulations to this year’s winner, Officer Reginald Foster, #11349, who graduated from academy class 357 and is currently assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division. Rookie of the Year nominees Officer Walter Guab, #11281 and Officer Benjamin Lambourne, #11368 also symbolizes everything, we, in law enforcement strive to be; hardworking, driven and mindful of our role as public servants.
