Arrest Made: In the Homicide Investigation of David Damato

On Sunday, February 9, 2020, at approximately 6:29 a.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting call at 3150 Cliff Creek Crossing Drive.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim, David Jeremiah Damato, a 21-year-old Latin male, lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.  Dallas Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.  A witness was transported to the Homicide Unit and interviewed by detectives.  The witness stated they were awoken by glass breaking, the victim grabbed his handgun and confronted the suspects.  One of the suspects was shot in the apartment.  The witness told detectives that one of the suspects shot the victim multiple times, and they began to ransack the apartment.  After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene before the officers’ arrival.

Homicide detectives learned the suspects transported the suspect, who was shot by the victim, to an area hospital for his injury.  Officers responded to the hospital and detained them.  Three of the suspects were transported to the Dallas Police Department Jack Evans Headquarters.  While at the hospital, the injured suspect was taken to the emergency trauma center for surgery.

Homicide detectives interviewed suspects Josiah Andrew Salinas, a 19-year-old Latin male, and Damarte Tremayne Burt, a 21-year-old Black male.  They admitted their involvement in the killing of the victim, David Jeremiah Damato.  Suspects Burt and Salinas were transported to the Dallas County Jail and charged with capital murder.  A juvenile was transported to the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with capital murder.  The injured juvenile is currently in custody for capital murder, and he remains in an area hospital.
