Shooting on Monmouth Lane

On February 18, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to 5307 Monmouth Lane regarding a shooting at an apartment complex.  The victim, Jamal Patterson a 26-year-old Black male became upset after being told by Subject Richard Farris, a 62-year-old Black male commissioned security officer that he could not work on his vehicle in the parking lot.  According to Subject Farris and several witnesses, the victim became upset and punched Subject Farris multiple times before going inside his apartment to retrieve a handgun.  The victim returned with a weapon and chambered a round before pointing the weapon at Subject Farris.  Subject Farris shot the victim multiple times.  The victim died at the scene from his injuries. 

Subject Farris called 911 and cooperated with the investigation.  He was transported to Dallas Police Headquarters and provided a statement regarding the incident.  After speaking with Subject Farris, the witnesses, and reviewing the physical evidence, Subject Farris was released by police.  This case will be referred to a Dallas County Grand Jury.  Anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to contact Dallas Police Detective Brewster Billings, at (214) 283-4805 / (214) 671-3083 or brewster.billings@dallascityhall.com.  Please refer to case #033139-2020.
