Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community are honored. Those hardworking 911 dispatchers and public safety telecommunicators (PSTs) serve as a vital link between the community and fire, medical, and law enforcement agencies. Acting as a critical lifeline to other first responders, these unsung everyday heroes are always there to answer the call.
PSTs are awesome all the time, but never more so than during a disaster. The current situation with COVID-19 is a classic example. While most people are staying home and/or teleworking, PSTs are going to work and putting the community first.
Let’s celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.
