On June 22, 2020, at approximately 12:36 a.m., Dallas police officers were working a special assignment for racers and speeders.  The officers were approached the intersection of South Lamar and Pennsylvania Avenue and observed approximately forty cars at the location driving erratically and speeding.

The officers alerted the cars to their presence by activating their emergency equipment. At that point, the vehicles began to drive away from the location. As the uniformed officers were driving southbound on South Lamar an unknown suspect fired a single round, striking their marked squad car.  The officers were not injured, and no suspects were located.
