Homicide on Echo Avenue

Update: August 27, 2020

On August 26, 2020, Daniel Esson, a 34-year-old Latin male, was charged with the murder of Steven Calhoun on July 3, 2020, which occurred at the 5100 block of Echo Avenue. Esson was already in custody at Lew Sterrett Jail after being arrested on an unrelated robbery charge. His bond will be determined by a Dallas County Magistrate.

On July 3, 2020, at around 6:30 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting at the 5100 block of Echo Avenue. Upon arrival, they located the victim, Steven Calhoun, a 62-year-old black male in the front yard with a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire and Rescue responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Another 29-year-old black female was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound she sustained. Witnesses reported that the suspect was a Latin male with curly hair and approximately 5’ 8ā€ and medium build. He fled the location in a white Chrysler 200 or 300.
