On August 8, 2020, at about 4:30 p.m., a 911 call was generated from the 3500 block W. Northwest Highway at Bachman Lake Park. An unknown Black male was seen by witnesses acting erratically and jumping into Bachman Lake. The male went under the water and never surfaced again.
When Dallas police officers arrived on the scene, they downed their gear and immediately went into the water to search for the individual. After spreading out, the officers were able to locate the individual on the bottom of the lake, which is about 10 feet down. The four officers then worked together to remove the individual from the lake onto the shore where Dallas Fire Rescue were waiting to perform CPR. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where, unfortunately, he succumbed to the drowning.
Although the individual could not be saved, the officers should be commended for their heroic and timely action in risking their own personal safety in an attempt to save the life of the individual. Kudos to these officers for going above and beyond the call of duty in this incident.
