As in years past, the Dallas Police Department is gearing up for its annual Santa Cops Delivery Day. Since 1984, the Dallas Police Department has provided assistance to members of the community by providing toys and food during the Christmas season. In that year, officers created and developed a program known as Santa Cops. The Santa Cops program was designed to assist members of the community who have been victims of crime and as a result of that act; they are unable to provide for their children during the holidays. The Santa Cops program has assisted over 10,000 families throughout the years and has been a topic of annual news reports in the Dallas Morning News, The Police News, and local television station broadcasts. A Santa Cops request form is completed by members of the department who have identified a family in need. In recent years, we have also had several Health, Social, and Church organizations nominate families who have exhibited a need for help with Christmas for their children.
In 2016, we teamed up with Kate’s Books, which we are very excited about! Kate is an officer’s daughter who had the idea to include books with our toy deliveries. This year’s goal is to collect and donate 5,000 new or gently used books to our less fortunate families. The next step is the best part of the process; watching the children’s faces when the officers bring the toys to their home.
This year, delivery day will be on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Officers and their elves will begin delivering toys at 9:00 a.m.
