The Speeding and Racing Task Force (SRTF) continued concentrated enforcement, May 28 – May 30, 2021, cracking down on erratic drivers. Officers conducted 135 traffic stops, issued 97 citations, made 6 felony arrests, 22 misdemeanor arrests, towed 6 vehicles, and seized 6 guns during this period.
On Friday, May 28, 2021, officers working the Street Racing Operation conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving with defective headlights. A subject check revealed the driver had a warrant out of Tarrant County for unlawful carrying of weapons (UCW) and was arrested. This is documented on case #094098-2021.
On Saturday, May 29, 2021, officers working the Street Racing Operation conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration. A subject check on the driver revealed a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 and was arrested. This is documented in case #094770-2021. Another group of officers working the Street Racing Operation conducted a traffic stop for running a red light. Upon making contact with the driver, officers found a gun and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested for UCW, possession of marijuana, and possession of THC. This is documented in case #094727-2021.
That same night, an officer received intel of a reckless driving event taking place at 1521 N. Cockrell Hill Rd. Upon arrival, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle and the vehicle attempted to evade the officer. The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver was arrested for evading motor vehicle (felony 3), spectating at a reckless driving event, and a warrant hold for DSO for theft. The three other occupants in the vehicle were arrested for spectating at a reckless driving event. This is documented on case #094781-2021.
On Sunday, May 30, 2021, officers working the Street Racing Operation conducted a stop on a vehicle involved in spectating at a reckless driving event. The driver was arrested for spectating and possession of fireworks. The passengers was arrested for UCW, possession of marijuana, and spectating. This is documented on case #095364-2021. In another incident, officers working the Street Racing Operation attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for reckless driving. The vehicle had previously evaded from officers multiple times. Air1 followed the vehicle and eventually DPS attempted a traffic stop and a chase ensued. The vehicle ended up wrecking out and the driver was arrested for evading in a vehicle. The Dallas police officers issued citations to the passengers for spectating at a reckless driving event. This is documented on case #095420-2021.
