ARREST MADE: Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives determined that suspect Christopher James Garcia, a 17-year old Latin male, was responsible for killing the victim. On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, Suspect Garcia was arrested and transported to the Homicide Unit where detectives interviewed him. The suspect was then transported to the Dallas County Jail where he was charged with murder. A Dallas County magistrate will set his bond amount.

On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at approximately 7:13 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call at the Luna Blanca Apartments located at 3707 Mt. Ranier Street. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, Jaan Nathan Cantu, a 19-year-old Latin male, lying on the ground in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported Mr. Cantu to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There are currently no suspects identified or apprehended. The motive and circumstances surrounding the murder are under investigation.
