On August 31, 2021, at approximately 10:27 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to a call regarding assistance needed by the DART Police Department at 1200 E. Jefferson Boulevard. It was reported the male suspect was inside a DART employee’s vehicle, armed with a handgun. The suspect also threatened suicide by police and sprayed lighter fluid around the vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect inside the vehicle, and attempted to speak with him; however, the suspect failed to respond to their commands. A short time later, Dallas SWAT was requested and responded. The SWAT team held a perimeter near the vehicle where the suspect was observed with a handgun multiple times. SWAT officers engaged the suspect and attempted to gain compliance through verbal commands, distraction devices, and chemical agents. The suspect, again, failed to respond to their commands.
At approximately 12:58 a.m, the suspect exited the vehicle and laid on the ground near the rear bumper. Soon thereafter, the suspect, armed with a handgun, began running away from the vehicle and towards one of the perimeter officers.
The officer fired one round from his rifle, missing the suspect. The suspect then sat on the ground and was taken into custody. He was not injured, nor were any officers. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation and the offense was handled by DART PD because it occurred on their property. The incident will be documented under case number 157664-2021.
