Officer Involved Shooting at 9727 Rustown Drive

On September 2, 2021, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Dallas Police Officers responded to an armed encounter call at 9727 Rustown Drive. The 911 caller reported about 5 to 7 males drinking, smoking, and shooting a gun in the air. A second caller to 911 described one of the suspects as being a Hispanic male, 6’0” feet tall, with a beard, and wearing an orange shirt.  The caller also stated the male pointed a gun at him and was standing with other individuals located between the gas station and laundry mat.

When the officers arrived, they observed multiple individuals matching the description on the 911 call sheet. Officers also observed a person wearing an orange shirt seated on the sidewalk on the side of the laundry mat. One of the officers, Police Officer Branson Grisham, #11046, drew his service weapon and began to approach the individual.

Officer Grisham gave the individual loud verbal commands to come towards him, but the individual fled on foot down an alley. Officer Grisham pursued on foot and when he rounded a corner, he stated that he observed the individual with his back turned manipulating something in his front waistband. Officer Grisham, with his gun still drawn, gave loud verbal commands for the individual to show him his hands. Officer Grisham then fired one round, missing the individual.  There was no weapon found on the individual or during this incident.

The 59-year-old Hispanic male involved in this incident was interviewed by detectives and released without any charges.  His name will not be released since he was not arrested or formally charged with a crime.
