Man faces Multiple Felony Charges After Barricaded Person Incident

 

On January 4, 2023, at about 9:15 AM, Dallas Police located a vehicle and determined it had stolen license plates in the area of 10500 Casnett. 

 

The preliminary investigation determined the driver of the vehicle, Kevin Knowles, 31, sped away from officers, eventually crashing in the area of 6700 Bruton Rd. Knowles ran from the accident scene on foot and into a golf course at 2323 N. Jim Miller Rd.  Knowles then stole two golf carts and shot at a citizen trying to stop one of the golf cart thefts. 

 

Officers located Knowles and he barricaded himself in a concrete drainage ditch.  Over the course of the next several hours, Knowles shot at responding SWAT officers as they attempted

to negotiate with him and take him into custody. The rounds fired by Knowles hit a search robot and a ballistic shield held by one of the responding SWAT Officers. 

 

As a chemical agent was used Knowles threw his weapon and surrendered. No officers were injured. Knowles was not injured but taken to a hospital as a precaution. One person was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the vehicle crash. The person who was shot at by Knowles was also not injured. 

 

Knowles has been charged with Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant, two

Counts of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest/ Detention with Vehicle, Aggravated Assault- Deadly Weapon, Accident Involving Injury, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon-Felon. He was taken to Lew Sterrett Jail.
