On March 19, 2023, at approximately  7:10 PM, Dallas Police were patrolling in 1900 block of Bennett Avenue. 

The preliminary investigation determined officers encountered a suspect known to them with prior criminal mischief and burglary of motor vehicle offenses in the back parking lot of an apartment building. 

The suspect was uncooperative and a struggle ensued. 

A taser was deployed and was not effective. 

The suspect continued to fight and pulled out a handgun, continuing to fight with officers. 

The preliminary investigation determined one officer fired from their department issued weapon hitting the suspect in the torso. 

Dallas Fire Rescue took the suspect to a local hospital in critical condition. 

No officers were injured.
