Officer-involved shooting in 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard

Update: On November 16, 2023, at about 6:05 AM, members of the U. S. Marshal’s North Texas Fugitive Task Force served a Capital Murder warrant in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard.

The suspect, 20-year-old Jordan Owens, was wanted in a homicide in the 9700 block of Forest Lane on October 16, 2023.

The Task Force team was made up of officers and deputies from the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and the U. S. Marshal’s Service, and assisted by members of the Dallas Police Project Safe Neighborhood team. 

The preliminary investigation determined for approximately three minutes – members of the task force knocked and announced their presence at the apartment and their intent in serving the warrant.

Officers breached the front door, and as the door was opened, the suspect fired at the members of the task force. 

Officers returned fire and moved downstairs from the apartment.

Dallas Police Task Force Member Senior Corporal Edgar Morales was hit during this initial exchange of gunfire.  First aid was administered for his injury, and he was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Owens exited the apartment and was given orders to surrender. He did not comply and returned to the apartment and started to throw items out of his apartment window.

Officers saw Owens with a handgun and again returned fire.

Dallas Police 911 received a call that there were other people in the apartment and Owens was injured. 

Task force members evacuated the witnesses from the apartment and took the suspect into custody. 

Officers provided first aid and Owens was taken to a local hospital.

The suspect’s handgun, modified with a full-auto switch and extended magazine, was recovered at the scene.

The investigation determined four task force members discharged their weapons during the incident.

Officer Morales was hit by gunfire in his left calf and was treated and released.

No other officers or civilians were injured.

Owens was treated in a local hospital and was last listed in stable condition.

He will be charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on Public Servant, in addition to his Capital Murder arrest warrant.

This is an ongoing investigation being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. They will conduct their own investigation.

The Office of Community Police Oversight was also notified and responded to the scene.

Original Post: On November 16, 2023, at approximately 6:00 AM, the US Marshals Task Force, including members of the Dallas Police Department, executed a Capital Murder arrest warrant in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard.

During the execution of the warrant, the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire.

A Dallas Police Task Force member was shot in the leg. The suspect was also shot.

The officer was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The suspect was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

This remains an ongoing investigation that will be documented under case number 203255-2023.
