Traffic Advisory: Road Closures Downtown on Saturday

The City of Dallas is hosting the National Rifle Association Convention from May 3 – 6, 2018 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center. The convention is expecting about 80,000 attendees during the four day event. The Dallas Police Department is expecting numerous protests during this four day convention. As a result, there will be several road closures in the downtown area.

On Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m, Young Street between Ervay Street and Griffin Street will be closed and South Akard Street between Canton Street and Young Street will also be closed during the same time period. Additional roads may be closed as needed. 

The department expects there will also be temporary road closures throughout downtown on Friday due to the arrival of several dignitaries. Expect delays if you are travelling through downtown this weekend and seek alternate routes during the times listed. 

Street Closures for Rally – Saturday, August 19, 2017

There is a planned rally on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall Plaza. Several streets around City Hall will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The map below depicts the planned road closures. Please avoid the area if possible or seek alternate routes during this time. 

The Dallas Police Department will not interfere with a lawful and peaceful assembly of any individuals or groups expressing their first amendment rights. The Dallas Police Department will take enforcement action if any type of criminal offense is committed against any person or property. Enforcement action will also be taken if demonstrators illegally impede traffic in the roadway or attempt to shut down a freeway. The safety of our officers and citizens is the primary concern as individuals or groups gather to express their first amendment rights.

Traffic Advisory: Street Closures for Sunday, April 9, 2017

 

Several streets in the downtown area will be closed on Sunday, April 9, 2017 for a rally and march beginning around 1:00 p.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m. Please avoid the area if possible or seek alternate routes during this time. 

The march will begin at Ross Avenue and Pearl Street and move westbound to N. Griffin Street. It will then proceed southbound on Griffin Street to eastbound Young Street. The march will end at City Hall Plaza and a rally is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Several adjacent streets will be closed during the march. Delays will be expected in this area during these times.

Veteran’s Day Road Closures

Parade Route

The annual Veteran’s Day parade will be held in downtown Dallas on November 11, 2015. There will be a ceremony that starts at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall Plaza at 1500 Marilla. The parade will start at 11:15 a.m. at Houston and Young St and will end at City Hall Plaza. It will proceed north on Houston, east on Main, south on Ervay, west on Young, south on Akard, east on Marilla and south on Ervay to Canton.

Streets will be closed in the staging area from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The staging area consist of Houston St from Wood to Young St., the Houston St. Viaduct. The Houston Street Viaduct will be utilized for the staging, line up of floats and bus drop off of all participants. Streets closed in the dispersal area consist of Canton between Ervay and Akard, Marilla between Akard and Ervay, Akard between Young and Marilla and Browder between Canton and Cadiz from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Lamar, Griffin, and Commerce at Houston and Ervay will remain open along the parade route to facilitate incoming and outgoing Downtown Dallas traffic.

From 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the following parade route streets will be closed: Main St. from Houston St. to Ervay, Marilla Street from Ervay to Young Street, Houston Between Elm and Young, Ervay between Main and Commerce, Young between Field and St. Paul, Akard between Wood and Canton, and Ervay Service Drive between Young and Canton.
