Officer Involved Shooting on N. Bishop Avenue

The following Dallas Police Officers discharged their weapons in the July 7, 2015, shooting at 1100 North Bishop Avenue.  All have been placed on routine Administrative Leave per Departmental policy. 

Detective Robert Cummings, Sex Offender Apprehension Program: W/M 29 years, 10 months service

Senior Corporal Lonnie Howard, Metro: W/M 16 years, 4 months service

Senior Corporal Stephen Prince, Metro: W/M 8 years, 2 months service

Police Officer Matthew Hooker, Metro: NA (Native-American)/M 8 years, 6 months service

The suspect involved in the Officer Involved Shooting from earlier today is Joe Cody W/M/10-7-55. There are no further updates at this time.

On Tuesday, July 7, 2015, Dallas Police Crime Stoppers received a tip regarding the whereabouts of a wanted known sex offender, described as a White male, 59 years of age.

Members of the department’s Sex Offender Apprehension Team (SOAP) along with uniformed officers of the METRO Unit responded to the tip, in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Members of the SOAP Team located the alleged suspect walking in the 1200 block of North Bishop Avenue. Uniformed officers of the METRO Unit responded to the location to make contact with the suspect.

At approximately 1:27 p.m., as officers were approaching the suspect, he produced and displayed a handgun. The officers gave him verbal commands to drop the gun. The suspect did not comply, forcing the officers to discharge their weapons. Preliminary witness statements support this account. A handgun was located at the scene.

The suspect was struck and was deceased at the scene. None of the officers were injured.

At this time, a total of four officers (3 METRO, 1 SOAP) are believed to have discharged their weapons. The case will be investigated by the Department’s Special Investigations Unit.

The next of kin has not been made.

Identity Sought in North Central Car Break-Ins

The Dallas Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying an individual who is using a stolen credit card within hours after the card was reported stolen from a Burglary of a Motor Vehicle offense. The same individual used another stolen credit card taken from a separate Burglary of a Motor vehicle offense in the same area, later in the month. There has been fourteen reported Burglary of a Motor Vehicle offenses reported in the North Central area of Dallas from May 29, 2015 through July 3, 2015.

The suspect(s) committing these car break-ins are targeting vehicles parked in residential driveways and on the street. The suspect gains entry through unlocked doors or breaking out a window. The suspect(s) are stealing small items such as briefcases, wallets and electronics. The offenses are occurring between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Bruton Road Homicide Suspect Sought

Victim: Hatley, Jakeivon

On July 4, 2015, at approximately 5:20 P.M., officers responded to a shooting call near Bruton Road and Prichard Lane. Detectives determined that homicide victim, Jakeivon Hatley, B/M/21, was shot and killed while seated in his vehicle at the intersection of Bruton Road and Buckner Boulevard. The victim was shot by a light skin, heavy set Black male, approximately 27 – 32 years of age. The shooter was driving a tan or gold Mercury Grand Marquis that was last seen fleeing southbound on Buckner Boulevard.  This offense is documented on case number 153094-2015.

Help Us Identify This Suspect

The suspect in this posted video has been identified as Fabio Salmeron W/M 11-3-1987. He was arrested July 9, 2015, at 12:49 am, charged with Theft From Person a State Jail Felony. 

On June 21, 2015, at about 6:14 p.m., a 64 year-old female was the victim of a Theft of Person while at the register inside the Walgreens located at 2602 Fort Worth Avenue.  The elderly female had her purse in the front of a shopping cart.  The victim was going back and forth from her purse to the counter while speaking with the cashier.  The suspect was a White male, about 6’01” 200 lbs., with brown hair, wearing blue jeans and a red Atlanta number 7 “Vick” jersey. As the victim put her wallet down on the counter and turned back toward her shopping cart, the suspect grabbed the victim’s wallet off the counter.  The victim attempted to retrieve her wallet, but the suspect pulled away and knocked the elderly female victim to the ground and ran away.  The victim observed the suspect get into the front passenger side of a red 4 door vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet or Toyota, and fled the location.

Suspect Sought in Burglary Offense

The Central Investigative Unit of the Dallas Police Department’s Property Crime Division is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a burglary suspect.  On June 28, 2015, at about 8:20am, an unknown Black male suspect broke into the storage unit located in the parking garage at 5706 E. Mockingbird Lane and removed yard maintenance equipment. The suspect was driving a silver or tan Chevy Blazer with no front license plate.  This incident is documented on Case # 147556-2015.  If anyone has information relating to this offense or know the identity of this suspect and/or vehicle, please contact Detective Keller @ 214-670-5053.

Seeking Residential Burglary Suspects

On June 17, 2015, between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, two unknown males forced entry into an apartment located at 6300 W. Camp Wisdom Road and took the victim’s property. The suspects stole a flat 42″ Samsung TV and a Glock handgun. For a description of the suspects, please see the video and pictures attached. If you have any information, please contact Detective B. Crime Alert: Home Invasion Robbery

On June 24, 2015, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a home invasion robbery occurred in the area of West Jefferson Boulevard and Plymouth Road. The suspects kicked in the back door and restrained the homeowner. The suspects ransacked the house looking for valuables. The suspects took cash, jewelry and an iPad from the house. The suspects were described as four Hispanic males wearing black ski masks.  This incident is documented on Incident #143779-2015.

Surveillance Video of ATM Theft @ 10400 N. Central Expressway

On Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at approximately 4:13 a.m., Dallas police officers responded to a call in the 10400 block of North Central Expressway in which the suspects used a champagne colored, 1993 Chevrolet Extended Cab Pick Up Truck to smash the storefront of the business. The pickup truck backed up through the storefront, at which time two suspects entered and attempted to remove the ATM. Two employees ran to the front of the store, at which time the suspects aborted the offense and fled. The suspects abandoned the pickup truck in the 7700 block of Meadow Road. The suspects were masked, gloved and hooded. This incident is documented on case number 142935-2015. BMV Suspect in Central Dallas

On June 18, 2015, at approximately 2:00 a.m., the unknown suspect pictured is believed to have committed several Burglary of a Motor Vehicle offenses in the parking garage of 1200 Main Street. The Central Investigative Unit of the Property Crimes Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying this person. Probable Cause Affidavit for Wanted Person: Jesse Sanchez

Updated June 13th at 8:15 p.m.: On June 12, 2015, Jesse Sanchez was arrested for his murder warrant and brought to Dallas Police Headquarters.  Detective Stewart interviewed and Mr. Sanchez admitted his role in the murder and aggravated assault.   

On June 1, 2015 at about 11:30 p.m., Homicide Detectives responded to a call at 1311 W. Wheatland Road. Victim, Willie Gray B/M 7/8/1993 suffered multiple gunshot wounds, causing his death. The victim was involved in an altercation with the suspect, who shot the victim. The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital where he later died from his injuries. This incident is documented on case number 124547-2015.
