Auto Theft Detective Catches Car Thief

On January 27, 2014, Dallas Auto Theft Detective K. Ferguson, #5274, with the assistance of two covert officers, located a Ford F350 pickup truck that was reported stolen from Allen, TX.  The vehicle was located in the 5400 block of Parry Avenue.  This type of vehicle is a high theft vehicle and is normally taken to an illegal chop shop to be dismantled for parts.

Detective Ferguson and the covert officers set up surveillance on the vehicle in an attempt to follow it to a chop shop.  The officers observed a small truck drive up to the stolen vehicle and a suspect, later identified as David Ortega L/M/10-31-94, enter and drive off in the stolen Ford truck.  The suspect was extremely nervous and abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 5800 block of Lindsley Avenue.

The suspect walked off from that area.  Detective Ferguson along with other officers took him into custody without incident in the 800 block of Parkview.  The suspect was transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed.  The suspect invoked his right to remain silent and was subsequently transported to the Dallas County Jail where he was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle on Case Number 22365-B.
