Press Conference: Community Awareness – Oak Lawn Robbery

On Saturday night, December 19, 2015, at about 10:30 p.m. a white male victim, 54 years old, was walking to a parking lot from the Round Up Saloon, located at 3912 Cedar Springs Road, when two suspects approached him from behind and began assaulting him. The suspects knocked him to the ground, kicked him, and stole property.  The victim suffered minor injuries.

During this altercation at least one of the suspects used offensive language in reference to the victim’s perceived sexual orientation.

The victim did not immediately report the offense to police, but was encouraged to do so after arriving at work yesterday with visible injuries. The victim went to the Central Patrol Station yesterday, December 21, 2015, and reported the offense.  The case has been assigned to the Robbery Unit and is under active investigation.  Detectives have been unable to interview the victim in person, but have spoken to him by phone. The allegations as we know them at this time indicate that the victim was the target of a bias crime.

The suspects are described as 2 white males, 6’ 0” tall, wearing black beanie caps and blue jeans.

Of the 14 offenses that have been reported in the Oak Lawn area, there is one other that involved two white male suspects.

That offense occurred on September 12, 2015 when two white male suspects approached the victim as he walked along the sidewalk at 2700 Douglas.  One of the suspects punched the victim in the face knocking him to the ground.  The suspects stole the victim’s cell phone.

The white male suspects in that offense are described as:

WM 35  6’ 4”  180 Lbs.                                              WM 35  5’ 9”  180 lbs

We are actively canvassing the neighborhood around Cedar Springs and Throckmorton and asking for the public’s help in identifying these suspects.
