Homicide on S. Westmoreland

On March 21, 2023, Jacory Simpson, died from his injuries after being shot in the incident in the 7400 block of Westmoreland Road.

Cameron Taquan Cooks will be charged with Murder. Cooks is being held at the Dallas County Jail.

The investigation determined Simpson was shot outside of a business following an argument. Simpson then shot Jones, and ran into a business.

On March 17, 2023, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Dallas Police responded to two related shooting calls in the 7400 block of S. Westmoreland Road. 


The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived they found Jacory Simpson, 23, shot inside the business. Simpson was taken by Dallas Fire Rescue to a local hospital in critical condition.  


Another man, Donavon Jones, 19, had already been taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, where he died on March 18, 2023 from his injuries. 


As a result of the investigation, detectives determined Simpson was in the parking lot when he got into an argument with Cameron Taquan Cooks, 20,  who fired a weapon at Simpson, hitting him.

Simpson then approached Jones in the parking lot, and shot him. 


Further investigation determined Simpson attempted to leave the location, but then ran inside the building. 


Simpson remains hospitalized and an arrest warrant has been obtained for Murder and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. 


Cooks is charged with an Assault-Serious Bodily Injury and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
